RYNO
Rip you a new one.
Multi-effects pedal for instrument and microphone — guitar, bass, synth & keys, acoustic pickup, microphone.
Pre-production CAD renders.
Overview
Instrument or +48 V mic in, balanced line out. Two of each, on locking 6.35 mm TRS.
24-bit conversion, once in and once out. Between them an effects chain you order yourself on the touch screen: amp and cabinet, drive, compressor, EQ, chorus, delay, reverb. Unity gain jack to jack.
The amps are not a fixed list chosen by us. Load open
.nam captures, or make your own — RYNO plays the
probe and records the return itself, no interface needed. Impulse
responses run long enough for whole rooms, not just cabinets.
Planned, not yet proven on hardware.
MIDI in and out on 3.5 mm TRS or USB-C. Presets and firmware over the same port.
Features
- Full microphone support — any pickup or mic'd instrument straight in
- +48 V phantom power — condensers straight in
- NAM amp capture compatible — use what is already out there (planned)
- Capture your own — no interface needed (planned)
- Long IR support — cabinets or whole rooms (planned)
- Seamless multi-pedal setups — effects in any order, one footswitch across them all
- Built-in line driver — balanced, straight into a desk
- Milled aluminium — no plastic anywhere
- Replaceable display — a stock panel that plugs in and comes with its own adhesive
Connections
- 1 Touch display
- 2 Footswitch
- 3 Inputs — 2× 6.35 mm locking TRS, right side
- 4 Outputs — 2× 6.35 mm TRS, line, left side
- 5 USB-C — MIDI (class-compliant), presets, firmware
- 6 DC in — 9–12 V, 2.1 mm centre-negative, 1 A supply recommended
- 7 MIDI in — 3.5 mm TRS, type A, right side
- 8 MIDI out — 3.5 mm TRS, type A, left side
Chain them
Four RYNOs linked out-to-in, each on its own preset; only pedal 2 is engaged. Pre-production CAD render.
Link the MIDI out of one RYNO to the MIDI in of the next with a 3.5 mm TRS cable. The pedals find each other and take a place in the chain, so one footswitch can act on all of them. Two chain modes, chosen on the display:
- Bypass others — stepping on one pedal engages it and drops every other pedal in the chain into bypass. One press switches between whole rigs.
- Preset change on command — a preset change on any pedal, by footswitch hold or a program change from a controller, is passed down the chain and the others follow to the same preset number.
A single pedal needs nothing extra: the same jacks take any standard MIDI controller or interface through a 5-pin adapter cable, and class-compliant MIDI over USB-C works alongside.
Signal path
Per channel: variable-impedance gain amplifier (VZGA) → 24-bit ADC → effects engine → 24-bit DAC → fully differential amplifier (FDA). Inputs on the right of the pedal, outputs on the left, as on any pedal.
Design targets
Simulated from the board design; to be verified on the analyser at bring-up. Not final specifications.
- Latency, jack to jack: 1.8 ms
- THD+N, input to output: about −98 dB, set by the converters
- Front end THD, single-ended input, 5 Vpp: −99 to −97 dB
- Front end THD, differential input: below −114 dB
- Noise, 20 Hz–20 kHz: −111 dBFS
- CMRR, microphone input: 79 dB
- Maximum input level: 5 Vpp
- Microphone mode gain step: 15 dB
- Input impedance: 1.75 MΩ (Hi-Z) / 6 kΩ balanced (Lo-Z)
- Power: 9–12 V DC, centre-negative

Status
In development — not yet available for order. Hardware shown is the current revision as pre-production CAD renders; performance figures are simulated and will be replaced by measurements at bring-up.
Designed in Denmark. Every electronic component is from a European or Japanese manufacturer; the final circuit boards are assembled in China, along with the enclosures, to my documentation. The first production run is a batch of 50, sold directly from this site. Price to be announced when the first units have been measured.
